I just completed my first year of teaching at the high school level. A year ago, I was pondering what to write for my class expectations. In college, you are given a format to follow. That format is general and is workable, however is tends to be a list of actions and consequences...just like Karl Fisch blogged about in Algebra 1 Course Expectations .
I plan on revising my class expectations to put the control back with the student. I like that Karl isn't listing the crime and punishment, rather he is letting his students know that he knows that they already know what he expects...and he expects them to abide by the simple understanding of mutual respect.

Excellent: Students need to understand how to learn. One of the hardest concepts to teach. How do we learn?????
